THE EFFECT OF USING ENGLISH SONGS ON STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT AT SD NEGERI 1 WONOAYU, LUMAJANG

The researcher applied the effect of using English song to teach vocabulary to class V students at SD Negeri 1 Wonoayu, Lumajang to find out how effective song in improving students' vocabulary mastery. The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not the use of song could improve students' English vocabulary mastery at SD Negeri 1 Wonoayu, Lumajang. The researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subjects of this study were 17 students of class V. The instruments used to collect the data were observation checklists, interview guidelines, and tests. In the first cycle, the researcher applied songs to students individually and in the second cycle, it was applied to the students in groups. The researcher administered the preliminary observation and pre-test before the treatment, that is before the song was applied in the teaching and learning process in the classroom. Then, the post-test was administered after the treatment. From the results of the data analysis based on observation and test, it can be concluded that had reached the success criteria (75%), the study was ended with Cycle II. In addition, the use song could improve the students’ learning participation during the teaching and activities
