The paper presents a new formulation for the analysis of the classical problem of a cable passing through an aperture in a conducting shield. The formulation is based on a dual integral approach and takes into account the finite thickness of the shield, allowing the evaluation of the effects due to the aperture and to the wire on the overall shielding effectiveness, as well as the representation of the effects on the signals transmitted through the wire
