Tidal turbines permit to produce renewable electricity from tidal currents, especially in macro-tidal environments (tidal straits, typically). Several technologies have been tested on site and the industry is currently preparing the commercial phase with the deployment of large tidal farms. However, advanced studies, accounting for the individual behaviour of the devices within a farm, are needed to estimate the annual energy production of future tidal arrays. Tidal turbines are located in shallow depths in relation to their dimensions.
