Manipulating the Vision of New Impeachment

The political crisis means that there are some dysfunctions in the political processes inside the state. Propaganda also could use the topic of crisis for its purposes (and crisis even could not be real). In other words, propaganda has the power to create an artificial picture of the crisis, construct it. The mentioned challenge is relevant for the Lithuanian context due to the permanent problem of the influence of Kremlin propaganda. Moscow is implementing aggressive information geopolitics against neighbours, including infiltration of Kremlin-controlled pseudo-media into the information field of other states. The article exploring how in the publications of “Sputnik Lietuva” (Kremlin-controlled media) is covered the conflict between the president of Lithuania and the ruling coalition after parliamentary elections 2020. The aim of the analysis is to show on the basis of a case study how Kremlin-backed propaganda acts in the Lithuanian information sphere. Results of the analysis allow concluding that “Sputnik Lietuva” is constructing an alternative picture of the conflict, based on real facts. It is an example of grey propaganda. Explored publications contain well-known tools of propaganda technics, methods of manipulation (i.e., the topic of “new impeachment”) and exaggeration as well as conspiracy-style dramaturgy
