Background: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) causes severe pain, and strong opioids are commonly used in postoperative analgesia. Dexmedetomidine is a novel alpha-2-adrenoceptor-activating drug indicated for procedural sedation, but previous studies have shown clinically relevant analgesic and antiemetic effects.
