Twodimensional high Reynolds number flows inside steady recirculating bubbles are studied by means of an asymptotic analysis as Re tends to infinty. The classical results about the asymptotic vorticity distribution of an incompressible recirculating flow with constant viscosity proved by Batchelor are re-examined in the framework of the new approach. A preliminary extension of the asymptotic analysis to barotropic compressible flows is presented
