Among Stephen King and Edgar Allan Poe, H.P. Lovecraft is one the most popular horror writers today. His brand of “cosmic horror” influenced many different artists, writers and directors. This paper is interested in exploring the representation of lovecraftian horror in movies and videogames. By referencing Lovecraft’s works it is possible to construct an image of what “lovecraftian” means. It is also important to distinguish the mediums of film and videogames in order to better understand how they adapt Lovecraft’s ideas. Three movies and three games were chosen for comparison and analysis. The games mentioned are Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Skyrim and Bloodborne.
