Safe and clean delivery is a pillar of safe motherhood. One of the causes of maternal and newborn mortality is an infection, which can actually be prevented through the implementation of infection prevention. Based on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), maternal mortality is set at 103 per 100,000 births which are caused by 35% of deaths due to infection in childbirth during the puerperium and the lack of examinations during pregnancy performed by pregnant women. This study aims to determine the factors related to the behavior of midwives in preventing infection when delivering delivery assistance at the Rantauprapat Hospital in 2019. The study population was all 120 midwives who worked at Rantau prapat Hospital and the sample was 86 people with simple random sampling. sampling, data collection is done primarily by using a questionnaire, and the data that has been processed is analyzed by univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analysis. The results showed that there was a relationship between the level of knowledge (p = 0.036), attitude (p = 0.033), length of work (p = 0.039), motivation (p = 0.000) and availability of tools (p = 0.000) with the prevention of infection while helping childbirth. The results of the multivariate analysis showed that the motivation of the midwife (p = 0.000) was very dominant about the prevention of infection during delivery assistance. For midwives, awareness is needed to increase infection prevention knowledge and skills by established procedures by following training related to prevention. infection during childbirth assistance
