This paper examines AUBtralia's regional security prospects for the 1990s. It describes various trends in the regional security environment and notes their implications for AUBtralian security policy. The long-term shift in the regional quantitative and qualitative military balance is analysed and its implication for Australian security policy assessed. The paper concludes by arguing that the most appropriate long-term policy for Australia is that of'cooperative security'
