This contribution is centred around the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), cornerstone of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (the Convention). The Convention created the ECHR. It also established the European Commission of Human Rights. To affirm the preeminent role of the ECHR is not to diminish the merits of the latter, which played an important role from 1954 to 1999, year of its suppression. The contribution insists on the relations between the Convention and the ECHR, “ its Court”.
