Values are today at the heart of the two major interstate legal orders that coexist on European territory, the Council of Europe and the European Union. Their place and role are as fundamental in each order, but the respective judges and case law reflect them in different ways and according to different methodologies. The purpose of this article is therefore to highlight the specific features characterizing the judicial understanding of values within the European Union.
