Through qualitative discourse analysis, this work uncovers the discursive processes by which scientific and expert discourses on climate engineering (CE) tend to "make worlds". We study the proliferation of discourses on CE in the 2000s through their link to the notion of Anthropocene, popularized by Nobel Prize winner Paul Crutzen. The analysis of these discourses reveals the articulation of several recurrent themes: the ineffectiveness of mitigation policies, catastrophism, the role granted to humankind in narratives of climate control (and thus, of the future), and finally CE as the fulfillment of this promise of control.
