One of the basic human needs is access to efficient drugs. For pharmaceutical applications, compounds used as drugs are very often chiral molecules. They have two possible mirror-image configurations (enantiomers), but only one of them usually shows biological activity, while the other is either inactive or even toxic. Thus, the development of methods to selectively obtain one enantiomer is of crucial importance. This can be achieved either by the separation of racemic mixtures or by chiral selective synthesis.
