Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease of international importance and ranks among the top 10 causes of death in the World. About one-third of the world's population is infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis . Every year, approximately eight million people develop active disease and two million die of TB. The currently used BCG vaccines have shown variable protective efficacies against TB in different parts of the world. Moreover, being a live vaccine, BCG can be pathogenic in immunocompromised recipients. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop new vaccines against TB.
