Ants were seen to visit extra\ufb02oral nectar sources mostly on the \ufb02ower bases and petiole junctions of Encyclia cordigera , E. chacaoensis and E. belizensis var. parvi\ufb02ora and the production of extra\ufb02oral nectar in relation to the presence of ants was observed during the \ufb02owering periods of these orchids in the Regional Botanical Garden "El Soconusco" and the orchidarium Santo Domingo, in Chiapas, Mexico.
