The practical measurement of leaf area of vines (Vitis vinifera L.) under field conditions is necessary to establish its relation with growth and yield, especially in the evaluation of field experiments. At Cauquenes, Chile (35\ub057' S, 72\ub019' W), in the 1993/94 season, a trial was conducted to determine the variables that best estimated the foliage area of vine leaves.
