Parent’s Duties in Sport: the Values for a Conscious Education

The transformation of civil society has been characterized by social and cultural changes. The evolution of sport has given way to the myths of the star system, to the exasperated quest for success and easy money. The family, fundamental cell of society, has slowly broken up, leaving education tasks to other social agencies. The School, the sport associations and cultural ones have been delegated of educational tasks, values guidelines and socially acceptable behaviours. The Charter of Parent’s Duties in Sport and the Charter of Sport Ethics Code want to be a collective assumption of responsibility as an authentic parental stimulus that reverses the trend of a true educational drift. In a constitutional state, it’s not possible to only claim rights, but also to fulfill social and educational duties, non-derogable or postponable to others. This Charter recalls the obligation that Parents have towards the education of children. This is linked to the ethical values of fair play, which can represent a guiding star of values to draw inspiration for a sport that can truly fulfill the educational, social, recreational and cultural function.
