This thesis will focus on what influence Taiwan has on the mutual relations and rivalry between China and the United States of America. The thesis will focus mainly on the events after 2012, when Xi Jingping took office as the Chinese president, which resulted in a transformation of Chinese foreign policy. The research will be conducted using the theoretical concepts of the Thucydides Trap and the Security Dilemma. In the second part of the thesis, using the scenario method, it will be investigated what a change in the current status quo in Taiwan would mean for both superpowers
