Background: Hypertension is one of the leading causes of the global burden of disease. Hypertension has been associated with increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, including coronary heart disease (CHD), congestive heart failure (CHF), ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, renal failure, and peripheral arterial disease.
