The humanist movement dates back to three famous Italian authors Dant Alighieri, Francesco Petrarca and Giovanni Boccaccio. In the specific case of Petrarch, he was a poet, philosopher and religious, although a critical cleric, since his contributions objected to some negative elements of the Catholic Church, such as its corruption and its love of the ostentatious. Among his famous discoveries are the letters of Cicero, whose influence was decisive in the Renaissance and humanism of the fourteenth century, as well as for the Enlightenment period.
