Fasting is abstaining from food and drink for a set period of time. Both traditional and modern health care systems use fasting as a way to help manage chronic non-infectious diseases. During fasting, activity increases adipose tissue lipolysis (burning of fat in adipose fat) while increasing fatty acid oxidation in peripheral organs, which increases fat burning and weight loss. The main thing this review was investigating is whether resistance training performed while fasting induces specific adaptations in training, where increased fat oxidation improves long-term resistance training levels.
