Urban water bodies are an inherent part of Indian culture. They store rainwater and ensure supply for domestic use and for agriculture. They help in recharging groundwater. They serve as flood cushions. They also act as city level open space and recreational area for the city. They help in maintaining the micro-climate of the area.
