Families with Farm Income: Their Income, Income Distribution, and Income Sources

This report utilizes data from the Farm Family Living Expenditures Survey of 1973. Nationally, total income for farm families is becoming more equally distributed. Low-farm incomes or even negative farm income does not necessarily indicate a low family income because over 90 percent of the families had income from at least one other source in addition to farming. Most low-income farm families were concentrated in the South, particularly in the Appalachian and Delta region.
