Algerian, and to a lesser extent, French identity have been profoundly, albeit not exclusively, shaped by French legislation on citizenship as applied to Algeria over the last one hundred and sixty years. This is made clear by bringing together general studies on French citizenship, on all migrations to France, and on the laws of colonial Algeria.
