Politics and prophecy - islam and the western world The relationship between religion and politics in Islam is often badly understood in the western world where thought is informed, consciously or not, by the separation of two principles, God and King. For Islam, prophecy is a dictate and not a testimony, as for Judeo-Christian tradition. As a result, it cannot be divided and the prophet or his representative is also at the head of the community. This is true for the great classics, such as al-Fārābi or Avicenna. The prophet, distinct from the ordinary man, is all the same a man of his time and of his environment. From there, in accordance with the principles of the Koran his policy will be tolerant and moderate. A parallel can be drawn between Ibn Khalduss and Machiavelli. Pour l'Islam, la prophétie est une dictée, et non, comme pour la tradition judéo-chrétienne, un témoignage. Il en résulte qu'elle ne peut être divisée et que le prophète ou son représentant est aussi chef de la communauté. Cela est vrai pour les grands classiques, comme al-Fārābi ou Avicenne. Le prophète, distinct de l'homme ordinaire par l'imagination qui lui permet de recevoir la parole de l'intellect-agent n'en est pas moins homme de son temps et de son milieu. De là, en accord avec les principes du Coran, une politique tolérante et modérée. Un parallèle s'impose entre Ibn Khaldūn et Machiavel. Tous deux sont savants et des praticiens de la politique ; mais Ibn Khaldūn n'oublie jamais qu'il est sūfi et a toujours souci de la conformité de son enquête avec le Coran ; Machiavel, tout en se disant chrétien, prouve par sa doctrine que, comme la science, "la politique pure est une forme spécifiquement chrétienne d'impiété".Ajerar Hassane.
