Fowler has been one of the leading theorists concerning the development of faith. According to Fowler who defines faith as the make up of an individual's main motivations for life, faith can be expressed through religion and cognition, but it encompasses more than either of these. It is a way of knowing by which people recognize themselves as related to the ultimate conditions of their existence. According to Fowler, faith is deeper, richer, more personal than belief. Fowler's theory can be use in order to understand the development of persons' all religious faiths who no matter what believe because it not focuses on a particular religious tradition or content of belief except on the "psychological concept of faith"
