This systematic review evaluated the effectiveness of applying Contingency Management (CM) to Alcohol Use Disorder, using the PRISMA recommendation to consult the following databases: MEDLINE Complete, Pubmed, Cochrane Library and PsycINFO. A total of eight randomized controlled trials were included in this review. In seven, CM was more effective in promoting continued abstinence. Of the two that evaluated treatment retention, both found statistically significant results favorable to CM. Of the three that showed follow-up results, the CM was more effective in promoting abstinence in two. All studies presented good methodological quality.
