A Learning Activity Package for Programming in Apple II BASIC

It is essential to provide an individual learning package for programming in Apple II BASIC for the remedial student or other students who are frequently absent from computer programming class. The principle of immediacy of reinforcement plays an important role in the development of this form of individualized and programmed instruction (Conger, 1973). Computer programming requires that students learn new concepts and combine or relate chains of concepts previously acquired in such a way that they are able to apply the rules of what they have learned to a wide variety of similar situations. This is difficult for students who do not understand the purpose of programming is problem solving or for other students who lack the motivation to succeed. Atkinson (1964) believes that the tendency to achieve success is influenced by the probability of success and the attractiveness of achieving it. There is additional research to indicate that if students feel they are failures, then their motivation to achieve in other aspects of their lives is depressed (Glasser, 1969). This project is intended to provide an alternative learning method to computer programming that will maximize successful feelings and minimize failures for remedial students
