Objective: To evaluate feasibility and outcome of minilaparotomy hysterectomy in a consecutive series of patients. Study design: Cohort analytic study. From October 1995 to March 2001, 148 out of 228 (65%) consecutive hysterectomies for benign gynecologic disease were performed by an abdominal route. Minilaparotomy hysterectomy (transversal cutaneous incision <10 cm, within the pubic hair) was attempted in all patients with benign uterine disease and contraindications for vaginal surgery. Surgical parameters were prospectively assessed in terms of length of incision, operative time, estimated blood loss, duration of ileus, perioperative complications and length of postoperative stay.
