From the observations of the said work it could be concluded that slow and controlled release of Lamivudine for more than 12 hours was obtained by using of natural (guar gum) and more than 24 hrs by using semi synthetic polymers (sodium carboxy methyl cellulose). Both the polymers were successful in the formation of matrix and at the same time it is effective in retarding the drug release. The drug release follows first-order kinetics. The mechanism of drug release was diffusion coupled with erosion. Stability studies revealed that there was no significant change in drug content and dissolution profile of matrix tablets.
