It is, therefore, our purpose in this dissertation to examine the educational laws of the American Colonies, especially such as illustrate typical attitudes toward education, and, in the light thereof, to determine to what extent the laws of the colonists were simply a reflection of the educational attitudes of the mother country, England, and wherein they were original and distinctively American
