UJI KELAYAKAN KERTAS LAKMUS BERBAHAN DASAR KUNYIT SEBAGAI ALAT PERAGA PRAKTIK PEMBELAJARAN KIMIA

Teaching aids or props are one of the learning components that must be sought to improve the quality of chemistry learning in schools. The limitations of this component can be overcame by developing simple props whose materials can be found around us. One of the indispensable props in learning chemistry is litmus paper. The litmus paper is usually found in school laboratories in red and blue color. However, in this study, researchers made litmus papers from turmeric and filter paper. The methods used were research and development to produce a product. The products were assessed by 3 validators, namely 1 chemistry teacher from SMK Negeri 3 Banjarmasin with expertise in industrial chemistry and 2 lecturers from Chemistry Education Program at Kalimantan Islamic University Muhammad Arsyad Al Banjari Banjarmasin (UNISKA) who are experts in biochemistry and science education. In addition to being assessed by 3 validators, the resulting product was also assessed by 20 students of the Chemistry Education Program at UNISKA and Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM). The produced natural litmus paper was yellow with the size of 1 x 8cm and the storability of 2 months, and was environmentally friendly. The results showed that: 1) this natural litmus paper was considered very feasible by 20 students in 8 aspects of the assessment: its relation to teaching materials, educational value, resilience, accuracy, efficiency, safety, aesthetics and kit box, 2) the litmus paper from turmeric was assessed very feasible by experts in the aspect of its relevance to teaching materials, educational value, efficiency, safety, and kit boxes, and considered feasible in 3 other aspects: durability, accuracy, and aesthetics
