NON-ALCOHOLIC fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a pathological condition where fat accumulation in the liver hepatocytes. It is also known as hepatic steatosis. NAFLD is a common liver disease resembling alcoholic liver disease (ALD), clinically and histologically, but it occurs in people who consume little or no alcohol. Meanwhile, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is the progressive inflammatory form of NAFLD, with histological features of hepatocyte injury (ballooning) and inflammation, with or without fibrosis.
