Coaching by Guided Discovery Style F is characterised by the logical and sequential design of questions that lead the players to a coach’s pre-determined response. In effect, Coaching by Guided Discovery is intended to develop ‘understanding’ rather than simply ‘knowing’ or ‘recalling’. When Coaching by Guided Discovery, each question posed by the coach requires a single correct answer. An important skill of the coach, when applying Coaching by Guided Discovery, is to listen to the players’ responses to interpret the significance or completeness of the response in order to know whether to re-frame the question to get a more complete or meaningful response, or to move on to the next question.
