Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) occurs in 3–30% of women and its prevalence depends on the living standards of a patient and the state of health care in different countries. This is most common in women with obesity, polycystic ovary syndrome, in premature ovarian failure and during premenopause. The review describes the efficacy of medicines, the frequency of complications (for example, the risk of venous thromboembolism when taking combined oral contraceptives, depending on the type of progestogen), and contraindications.
