An efficient method has been developed for the synthesis of 6-(alkylsulfanyl)-4-aryl(hetaryl)-N-aryl-5-cyano-2-methylpyridine-3-carboxamides by condensation of aromatic or heteroaromatic aldehydes with cyanothioacetamide and acetoacetanilides in the presence of triethylamine or morpholine, followed by S-alkylation. © 2019, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd
