This course surveys the major events of the 20th century, concentrating on the political, cultural, and economic forces that shaped the century. This is a World History course and includes readings and lectures on the whole realm of issues that have dominated our century. We will focus on the major events of this century including the First World War, the Russian Revolution, the rise and fall of Fascism and Communism, World War II, the Cold War, and the Era of Decolonization in Africa and Asia. Emphasis will also be made on the changing role played by ordinary people in the political process around the world.
