Utilización de las tecnologías de información y comunicación por los estudiantes de la modalidad a distancia: estudio de caso en Ecuador

[eng] This research presents the results of a case study on the level of use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) by students of the distance modality of the Private Technical University of Loja (UTPL), Loja (Ecuador), in the academic period April-August 2020, the time of Covid 19. The methodology used is the qualitative analysis of the management of (ICT) in the teaching-learning process. To collect the results, a survey with questions validated in other investigations was used and the collection process was online. A representative sample of 300 students enrolled in different degrees of the distance modality was obtained, who chose the free configuration subjects of Hospitality and Tourism and Tourist Operations. The results show that distance students do have knowledge regarding (ICTs), however, they do not use them in the appropriate way because the information they use for their educational activities is based on searches of Academic Google and to a lesser extent in virtual libraries.Regarding the teachers, the results allowed observing that in the teaching-learning process they have the necessary skills and abilities to use ICTs. Therefore, these results are of great value from the strategic point of view to address new didactic strategies based on ICTs that allow teachers to involve students in the use of ICTs in their educational teaching-learning activities
