Interactions within Balanus improvisus populations in cenoses of fouling

The effect of density on biocenotic interactions of the Cirripedia in cenoses of fouling was traced on barnacles Balanus improvisus living in dense and rarefied habitats as «pure» populations and in community with other species. In dense B. improvisus populations the intrapopulation interactions result in a reduction of eggs produced, because of changes in the carapase growth and competition for food. On the other hand, these interactions stimulate maturation of barnacles and lead to shortening of intervals between clutches, which results in an increase in the number of generations. In dense habitats the Cirripedia spawned 10 times in one month, while in rarefied ones, only 7 times. The life- span of the barnacles is determined by distinct negative interspecific interactions, such as predation or biotic succession appearing in young developing cenoses. In «pure» dense and rarefied habiats the bulk of the population (90%) died after 8 to 9 months, while in communities with other species the death occurred after 3 to 4 months.На основании ряда биологических и физиолого-биохимических показателей у балянусов, обитающих в «чистой» густой и прореженной популяциях, а также в естественном сообществе обрастаний, представлено влияние плотности поселения на внутри- и межвидовые взаимодействия усоногих в ценозе. Установлено, что в густых поселениях балянусов внутрипонуляционные взаимодействия приводят к сокращению количества продуцируемых яиц (t = 7,33 при Р0,01 = 2,6) как результату взаимодействий, обуславливающих изменение в характере роста домика и конкуренции из-за пищи. С другой стороны, эти взаимодействия стимулируют созревание рачков, приводят к сокращению продолжительности между отдельными кладками, что ведет к увеличению числа генераций в течение месяца у усоногих, обитающих в густых поселениях (10 против 7 в разреженных). Продолжительность жизни балянусов определяется резко выраженными отрицательными межвидовыми взаимодействиями, каждый раз возникающими в «молодых», развивающихся сообществах (хищничество, биотическая сукцессия)
