In the long run, that is, when we consider the process of property entailment in the Azores from the late 15th century to the eve of the Liberal Revolution, we can see that regarding the most important houses in the island of São Miguel, among which stood out several from the city of Ponta Delgada, there was an accumulation of institutions, as a result of endogamous and blood marital alliances and the extinction of some masculine lineages. This progressive leeway eventually favoured towards the end of the Ancien Régime the noblest houses of Ponta Delgada, which therefore stood out among local nobility as the foremost entailed houses.
