Artificial intelligence seems to be in vogue as a term lately; however, this term was coined back in 1956 by mathematician John McCarthy, Marvin Minsky and Claude Shannon. This concept defined the word as the science and engineering of ``making machines intelligent.'' its sibling term, artificial life, is equally fundamental.
