Sustainable development of society and industry is necessary for a safer future that is being challenged by environmental pollution, climate change, and scarcity of food and nutrition. Materials considered as waste can be converted into value-added products and energy, hence regained to the economy. Filamentous fungi are saprophytic microorganisms that show great potential for bioconversion of organic waste materials into a wide range of products, including ethanol, enzymes, fungal biomass, and organic acids.
