Multilayered carbon fiber-reinforced polymers (CFRP) are increasingly used in aircraft components because of their superior mechanical properties. However, composite materials are vulnerable to impact loads, resulting in delamination-type damage which, if unnoticed, could lead to catastrophic structural failure.
