El género Micropholis (Sapotaceae) es diverso y ecológicamente importante en los bosques húmedos de tierras bajas del Neotrópico. En general, las especies son difíciles de identificar en ausencia de caracteres reproductivos y en estados juveniles. Por consiguiente, se podría subestimar la biodiversidad de los bosques donde crecen, lo que a su vez podría impedir tomar decisiones acertadas en cuanto al manejo, uso y conservación de estos bosques.
