This paper proposes a framework for screening and evaluating seismic performance of river earth embankments on liquefiable foundation soils. The framework is executed in the order of simplest screening by soil liquefaction potential map to preliminary and detailed evaluation of seismic performance of embankment according to the sufficiency of data and the complexity and accuracy of the methods. The seismic performances of embankments are classified into four levels based on the seismic-induced crest settlement. The method used for preliminary evaluation is based only on the factors of safety of foundation soils against liquefaction and the embankment slope against sliding.
