The aim of transcultural nursing is to provide the patient with culture-congruent care; care from the context of the patient's culture. Culture-congruent care should be a core, not a peripheral matter in the nursing of patients. To be able to give culture-congruent care, nurses need specific training. Nursing education is based on a curricula which should reflect the society of which both the nurse and patient is a member. The curricula must empower the nurse to function in this society.
