The paper analyzes the excerpta of historians dealing with Cicero's death as collected by Seneca the Elder in his sixth suasoria (§§ 17-24): although indecision and incoherence mark the last moments of the life of the old statesman fleeing through Latium and over the sea, his figure is reevaluated in a decidedly heroic sense by the declaimers. At the same time the figure of Octavian is rehabilitated: his name does not appear in their story, while Antony is represented as a tyrant and is considered the only responsible for the assassination of the orator and the abuse of his corpse
