In practical IPMSMs, there are always undesirable torque ripples due to the spatial harmonics. Most existing methods attempted to reduce torque ripples based on torque modeling, but their performances were not satisfactory due to inaccurate model of an IPMSM itself. This paper analyzes the torque ripple based on an actual torque map, which is more practical and accurate compared to torque-model-based analyses. Based on the analysis, a torque ripple minimizing method implemented with a few resonant current regulators is proposed.
