According to Polybius, Philip V king of Macedon, at first considered as the ‘darling of Greeks’, changed for the worse after following bad advice from his nearest φίλοι, in particular Demetrius of Pharos. In the political scenario of the συμμαχικὸς πόλεμος against the Aitolian League Philip is the protagonist of two outrageous raids at Thermos and Messene. As a result, he revealed his true nature, and in many circumstances he acted as a bad tyrant against the interests of the Greeks. In the light of recent studies, this judgement seems to reveal a bias by Polybius, since the historian was a supporter of Aratus of Sicyon, leader of the Achaean League
