Desain dan pembuatan Turbin ulir Archimedes sedang dikembangkan untuk pembangkit listrik tenaga mikrohidro. Turbin ulir Archimedes dapat dioperasikan pada head yang rendah. Di indonesia kususnya provinsi sumatera utara ini sangat berpotensi mengingat banyaknya aliran dipegunungan atau perbukitan sehingga masyarakat sekitar nantinya akan bisa memfaatkan alira sungai yang relatif kecil yang ada, bila diaplikasikan pada aliran-aliran sungai yang mempunyai tinggi relatif 0,5 meter hingga 1 meter bahkan sekalipun pada air yang mengalir sedikit bergelombang turbir ulir tersebut tentu bisa digunakan hal itu yang jadi keunggulan pada alat PLTMH tersebut. geometri dari turbin ulir ditentukan oleh parameter eksternal yaitu radius luarnya, panjang turbin dan kemiringan peletakan dan parameter internal yaitu radius dalam jumlah sudu. Parameter eksternal biasanya ditentukan oleh head dan debit. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah Pembuatan pembangkit listrik tenaga mikrohidro turbin ulir skala laboratorium, menghasilkan instalasi turbin ulir untuk studi eksperimental pembangkit listrik tenaga mikrohidro skala laboratorium. Selanjutnya instalasi ini akan digunakan untuk pengujian-pengujian mengenai parameter ekstenal dan parameter internal turbin ulir Archimedes. Hasil desain dan pembuatan turbin ulir skala laboratorium adalah model turbin ulir dibuat menggunakan material besi siku dan plat besi bentuk geometrinya dua sudu, jumlah lilitan 6, panjang turbin 870 mm dengan jarak blade kisar 290 mm. The geometry of the screw turbine is determined by external parameters, namely the outer radius, turbine length and laying slope and internal parameters, namely the radius in the number of blades. External parameters are usually determined by head and discharge. The purpose of this research is the manufacture of a laboratory-scale screw turbine micro-hydro power plant, producing a screw turbine installation for experimental studies of laboratory-scale micro-hydro power plants. Furthermore, this installation will be used for tests on external parameters and internal parameters of the Archimedes screw turbine.
